The article examines Bataille’s difficult relationship with philosophy, essentially because philosophy does not put genetically into question its own conceptual frame, whereas Nietzsche’s announcement of the death of God puts in front of humanity the enigma of its own historical genesis. It is this journey to the limits of self-destruction which allows Bataille to regain the reasons for the object and the world.
